Family Album: Plain Grove Graduates, 1917

Jonathan Fennick and Mary Rogers, graduating class of 1917The photograph is Jonathan Fennick, age 17, and Mary Rogers, taken in 1917.  They were the only graduates from Plain Grove School.  Jonathan began teaching in a one-room schoolhouse just west of the #5 mine, the year following his graduation.  He married Lila Heglin, and they had 6 sons and 4 daughters.  It is of local interest that one of their grandchildren is Ben Fennick, the principal at Wilmington Area Middle School.

Family Album: Changes In New Wilmington

New Wilmington, 1970's

Does this scene look familiar? Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that the sign on the building says “McCrumb’s M&M Market.” The name on the awning is “Louise’s” And the cars in the parking lot have a decided 1970’s look about them. This photo was generously shared by Jodi Kind, who commented that a lot of things have changed in New Wilmington in the past 40 years. And then again, a lot haven’t.
